What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a healing technique that was developed in Japan in the late 19th Century. Reiki is a safe, gentle, and entirely natural form of healing, suitable for humans and animals. It works on an energy level to correct imbalances and disease within the mind, body and spirit, and complements both orthodox medicine and alternative therapy. Reiki means ‘universal life force energy’. This energy is in the world around us, within all living things, and also surrounds us (the aura). It runs through the earth, plants, animals and humans. The proper flow and amount of this energy is essential to our health and well-being. It is when there is not enough life energy or if it is moving too slowly that illness can result. This is where Reiki comes in. Reiki is a form of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui. All Reiki Healers can trace their lineage back to Dr Usui. There is no belief system attached to Reiki – anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment.

Why Use Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle and safe method of healing which can be used for any health problem, whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Emotional stress in particular has a very damaging effect, especially following years of suppressing negative emotions such anger, hurt resentment, guilt, grief, etc.

Reiki will not interfere with any other medications or treatments, though it can boost their effectiveness. It complements all other types of alternative therapies and traditional medical techniques.

Please remember that Reiki is not a substitute for any medical advice and treatment. If you are unwell, please see your GP as soon as you can, we are not trained in diagnosis. If you are concerned about your symptoms you should see your doctor.

Scientific studies have shown that Reiki has positive effects on the immune system and is helpful for reducing blood pressure and relieving pain.

Receiving a Reiki treatment is very simple and lasts about an hour. You simply lie down on a treatment couch and relax. There is nothing to do and nothing to think about. No clothing, other than shoes needs to be removed. During the treatment the Practitioner’s hands remain still as they are placed on the body in various positions enabling your body to draw on the energy.

What does Reiki feel like?

The experience of Reiki varies between individuals. Relaxation, warmth or tingling and a wonderful feeling of well being are the most common effects.

Will Reiki help me?

Reiki is said to help all forms of illness or ill-being by boosting energy at every level, supporting and accelerating the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Anyone can benefit from a Reiki treatment. It complements the effectiveness of most forms of medication and is natural method of healing that does not depend on a belief system or religion.

The number of treatments required depends upon the root cause of the problem and the amount of energy needed to restore well-being.
